Going Seasonal

A few days ago I wrote about Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, a fabulous book that has changed the way I think about food in many ways.

It focused a lot on the positive, lasting impact of seasonal eating and buying locally.

It's amazing, when you think of it, how greatly the quality and taste of our food is increased when we eat things in season that are grown near us.

Lately, we have been putting these ideas into practice by getting local produce delivered to us through Farmbox Delivers.

This just happens to be one of our local CSA-like programs where you sign up (for several weeks or on a week-to-week basis, depending on the program) and they deliver fresh, local, organic fruits, veggies and herbs to your doorstep!

You can find a CSA in your area here.

Believe it or not, the thought of just cooking out of the contents of a box of ingredietns and not knowing what they'll be from week to week is totally exhilarating for me.

When our first box came a few weeks ago, we made our meal plan from the produce we received, and honestly, I wished it would have lasted longer because we gobbled it up.

Here are some of the things we made from our fresh finds:

Being a part of a CSA or local produce delivery program is one of the easiest ways to start eating locally and more seasonally, not to mention, eating better, tastier food!
