Easy Hummus

One food that I discovered during my time in England was hummus.

There were always two flavors of hummus (regular and Moroccan) at my little grocery store in Oxford and I always had a package in my fridge while living there.

Hummus is a perfect, healthy, creamy dip. I love it on pita or pita bread, tortilla chips, raw carrots and as a condiment on sandwiches.

I have a Jordanian friend who recently gave me the recipe for homemade hummus, and it is seriously easy!

First, put an opened can of garbanzo beans on the stove to cook for 5 minutes.

That's right, just place it right on your burner and watch it cook. Forget cleaning out another bowl!

Then, whiz it up in the food processor with yogurt, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper. And if you can't find tahini, find a friend who has some and borrow a little bit. I found this to be a great technique.

That's it! Well, I also added a little dollop of onion dip...because I'm currently obsessed with the creamy stuff right now.

And voila: You have an amazing dip to put on everything and store in your fridge for a week or two.

Although I really love this hummus recipe because it's really simple and highlights the flavor of garbanzo beans, I think next time I'll add some rosemary to herb it up!

  1. Probably doesn't taste the same but I've found a cheap alternative to tahini is peanut butter. Call me crazy but I think it's delicious!
